Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe
FTGFOP is what an estate calls a plucking that is almost, but not quite, at the very top of the tip ladder. It shows up on real shelves far more often than the grade above it, which is closer to a showcase rarity.
What it is
FOP carrying an exceptionally high proportion of golden tip, one rung below the ladder's top grade and above TGFOP.
Where you meet it
Regularly on Darjeeling and Assam orthodox packaging, sitting between TGFOP and SFTGFOP. It is the highest tip grade most drinkers will actually buy rather than only read about.
How to read it
Treat the letters the same way as every FOP-family grade: a statement about tip content, not a guarantee of flavour.
A common mistake
Reading 'finest' in the name as an independent quality verdict rather than a position on the tip ladder. It marks where FTGFOP sits relative to TGFOP and SFTGFOP, not a separate judgement on the tea.
