My tea tastes like a swimming pool

There is a faint chemical, pool-like smell or taste in the cup, more obvious in light tea than dark.

Likely cause

Chlorine or chloramine added to disinfect the mains water is the usual cause, not the leaf or your kettle.

Test it at your sink

Leave a jug of tap water uncovered overnight. If the smell fades by morning, that points to chlorine rather than chloramine.

What to change

Chlorine fades with standing, a rolling boil or a basic carbon filter. Chloramine is more stubborn and needs a filter rated for it specifically.

No blend on earth beats a swimming pool. Give the water a night on the counter before you blame the leaf.
